Empowering Lives: The Story of Rachelle Vartanian and the Living and Learning Center
In a recent episode of The 1 Girl Revolution Podcast, our very own founder, Rachelle Vartanian, was highlighted. Episode #201 not only delves into the inspiring story of Rachelle but also spotlights the work we are doing in supporting individuals with disabilities.
Early Beginnings: A Path of Dedication
Rachelle’s journey began with her graduation from Eastern Michigan University, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in teaching for the emotionally impaired. Her passion for helping others took root early in her career as she worked at a center for adjudicated youth. This experience marked the beginning of a lifelong commitment to understanding and supporting those in need.
Personal Experiences: A Mother’s Love
Rachelle’s personal life profoundly influenced her professional path. When she noticed signs of autism in her youngest son, later diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, she immersed herself in the field of Autism Spectrum Disorders. Her dual role as a mother and an educator fueled her desire to create better support systems for individuals like her son.
The Birth of the Living and Learning Center
Recognizing the scarcity of resources and support for people with disabilities, Rachelle initiated a local family group, “Weamara.” This group laid the foundation for what would become the Living and Learning Center. In a bold move, Rachelle quit her job, sold her family home, and used her savings to start Living and Learning, a decision that speaks volumes about her dedication and belief in her mission.
