Building Skills, Creating Opportunities: Living and Learning Featured on FOX 2 Detroit

by | Oct 16, 2026

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), a time to recognize the contributions of workers with disabilities and highlight the importance of creating inclusive workplaces. This month, Living and Learning was featured on FOX 2 Detroit for its work helping adults with autism and other developmental disabilities prepare for meaningful employment.

The feature, “Living and Learning Enrichment Centers helps adults with autism prepare for the workforce,” highlights how our Northville-based nonprofit partners with local businesses to provide adults with opportunities to learn job skills and build a foundation for future employment.

Preparing for Success in the Workplace

At Living and Learning, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to develop their skills, explore their interests, and work toward their personal goals. Through our vocational programming and Employment Services, members build practical workplace skills, gain experience in professional environments, and develop the confidence needed to pursue employment.

Our team works alongside members to help them strengthen their communication, learn workplace expectations, practice daily responsibilities, and prepare for the opportunities and challenges that come with a job. These experiences help members grow their independence while discovering their individual strengths and abilities.

The Power of Inclusive Employment

Creating meaningful employment opportunities takes collaboration. Through partnerships with local businesses and community employers, Living and Learning connects members with opportunities to develop their skills in real-world work environments.

Inclusive hiring benefits more than the individual employee. It gives businesses the opportunity to welcome dedicated team members, build stronger workplace cultures, and recognize the value of a diverse workforce.

When employers provide opportunities for individuals with disabilities, they help create communities where more people can contribute, grow, and succeed.

Celebrating Progress During National Disability Employment Awareness Month

National Disability Employment Awareness Month reminds us that employment is about more than a job. It is an opportunity to build relationships, develop independence, contribute to a team, and take pride in meaningful work.

At Living and Learning, we are proud to support adults as they work toward their employment goals, and we are grateful to the business partners who recognize the value of inclusive hiring.

We invite you to watch the FOX 2 Detroit feature to learn more about how Living and Learning helps adults prepare for the workforce and why inclusive employment matters.
